Calculator Recommendation

A soft-shell chamber breaks even in 3.1 months at your usage rate — it pays for itself well within your timeframe. If your condition requires only 1.3 ATA, this is a strong economic choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this calculator?

This calculator uses real-world pricing data: clinic sessions typically run $150–$400 each, soft-shell home chambers $3,000–$15,000, and hard-shell clinical chambers $15,000–$150,000+. The break-even math is straightforward (chamber price ÷ cost per clinic session = sessions to break even). What it can't capture is value differences between 1.3 ATA soft shells and 2.0+ ATA hard shells for medical indications — those aren't directly comparable on price alone.

Does insurance cover home HBOT chambers?

Standard health insurance does not cover home hyperbaric chambers. Insurance may cover clinic-based HBOT sessions for specific FDA-approved indications (wound care, decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning, etc.) when billed through a hospital or certified wound care center. Off-label uses — including general wellness, anti-aging, sports recovery, and long COVID — are almost never reimbursed by insurance regardless of where treatment occurs.

What's the real cost of a clinic protocol?

A standard 40-session neurological or wound care protocol at $200/session totals $8,000. At $300/session, that's $12,000. Many conditions require ongoing maintenance sessions after the initial protocol — add 1–4 sessions per month indefinitely. Factor in travel time (often 30–60 minutes each way), scheduling friction, and the inability to session daily without living near a clinic. Over 2–3 years, regular clinic use almost always exceeds the cost of a hard-shell home chamber.

Can I rent instead of buy?

A small number of companies offer soft-shell chamber rentals at $500–$1,500/month. Rental makes sense for short protocols (under 3 months) or to trial HBOT before committing to a purchase. Hard-shell rental is rare and expensive. If you expect to use HBOT for 6+ months, buying almost always beats renting on pure economics — and you have unlimited access, no return logistics, and the residual asset value.
